Hair Loss Q & A

What causes hair loss?

Both men and women experience hair loss for a number of reasons, such as:

  • Medical conditions
  • Hormone changes
  • Chemotherapy
  • Aging
  • Stress
  • Poor nutrition
  • Medications
  • Significant weight loss
  • Hereditary thinning

No matter the cause of your hair loss, if you’re self-conscious about thinning hair or balding, PRP treatments can help.

What is PRP?

Thanks to medical advances like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, you don’t have to live with hair loss. PRP is an injectable medical treatment created from parts of your blood that are rich in growth factors and can rejuvenate hair growth.

The experienced dermatologists at CSC Steil Dermatology rely on PRP as the go-to hair loss treatment because it has been scientifically proven to improve your hair count, thickness, and growth.

How does PRP for hair loss work?

Your hair loss specialist uses a thin needle to draw blood from your arm. Your provider places the blood in a centrifuge to separate and isolate the platelets and growth factors. Next, your doctor puts a topical anesthetic on your scalp to ready you for the PRP injections.

The entire process only takes 30 or 45 minutes. When the treatment is over, you can return to work, school, or your normal activities.

How long does it take to see results?

Your dermatologist develops a custom treatment plan to address your unique needs and goals. Your plan accounts for your hormones, your family and medical history, how much hair you need to regrow, and where you need to regrow it.

For optimal results, your dermatologist recommends a series of PRP treatments over the course of several months. Hair follicles respond to the PRP immediately, but it takes about three months before you see noticeable results.

Peak results are obvious about six months after your first PRP treatment. Maintenance treatments every six to 12 months help encourage further hair growth.

The team at CSC Steil Dermatology monitors your hair regrowth and adjusts your treatment schedule as necessary.
